Cruz the Glen is held each year at the end of July, in the
quaint little village of
Watkins Glen, NY This show highlights 2
of the areas attractions,
Seneca Lake and the
“Watkins Glen
International Racetrack”. Our show is held in the
“Warren W. Clute”
Park at the southern end of Seneca Lake. During the show you can
Picnic next to the lake or go swimming next to the pavilion
(life guards on duty in nice weather) this area is also in the
New York Wine Country. We have many of our show participants who
plan their vacations not only to come to the show but take in
the local attractions.
The show starts on Friday night with pre-registration starting
at 5:00 PM, followed by a 2 hour Hospitality of light snacks
provided by our club “Empire State Cruzers”. Neon Lights Show is
held at dusk.
On Saturday, gates open at 9:00 AM. Registration goes until
12:00 PM. During the day we have various events going on like:
“A Rock and Roll Trivia” contest, door prizes, raffles, 50/50
drawing, tailgate displays and our “PT Remote control car
races”. Food for the day starts early in the morning and through
out the day by the local Boy Scout Troop #2674 from Watkins
Glen; who have everything from Breakfast sandwiches to hot dogs
and hamburgers, (with all proceeds going to them)! We wrap up
the show around 3:00 PM with the trophy presentation, but the
day isn’t over yet!
Saturday night our Banquet this year will be in the pavilion
right in the park! After the dinner we hold our annual auction!
Money raised by our show goes to benefit the
“Children’s Miracle Network”. Following the auction we will be
having a 50’s style sock hop so come dressed in your best
“Poodle Skirt” or Leather Jackets! .
Sunday it’s “Breakfast in the Park” before we “Cruz to the
Track”, where drivers who have paid a nominal fee get to drive
their cars on the world famous “Watkins Glen International Race
Track”! Typically the drivers follow the pace car around the
track about 3 times.
Some people chose to head home while others stay in town for the
sites and shops! If you haven’t been to New York’s “Southern
Tier”, this alone should be the reason for coming to our show.
